July 12, 2007
Ocean Salmon fishing opened Sunday, July 1st. Almost everyone has been catching limits when they get out. Coho have been running 5-8lbs and a few Chinook are starting to show up. Weather and water conditions have been unstable with warm and cool water moving the fish around. Strong winds on several days has been making the fishing tougher. When the weather settles down however, It looks as though there is going to be good numbers of Salmon out there.

Yesterday was our first Sturgeon trip of this season. Fishing was pretty good as a whole but Great for us. My three customers each had a keeper in the box by 8:00 am. We did a little fun fishing until noon, returning to the dock with 5 in the box. We also released three other keepers along with some shorts. Fishing should remain good until the end of June.
March 18, 2007
We ran the boat upriver to Cathlamet today to start our Spring Chinook fishing season. We fished for about four hours mostly setting up and getting the bugs out. We hooked two Chinook, boating one of them. Fishing should be just starting to get good.
August 28, 2006
Fishing is still slow compared to the last five years but we have still managed to limit all but one of the last 39 trips. Coho are running 10-18 lb. with a few Chinook mixed in. The Chinook have not been as abundant as in previous years.
July 24, 2006
Salmon fishing is still pretty good this season. We have had to work for our fish, but have limited out every day this year except for one. The Coho are now averaging 9 to 10lbs with our largest weighing 14lbs. We are getting a couple of Chinook a day now with our largest of the year caught today that weighed 37lbs. On most days however the private boats and the larger Charter Boats are not getting limits for their fishermen.
July 5, 2006
Salmon fishing opened in marine area 1 on Monday. Fishing has been good but not a red hot start like usual. We have been getting limits every day, but it has taken 3 to 6 hours of fishing to catch them. The salmon have been mostly Coho so far, weighing 4 to 8 lbs.
June 12, 2006
Sturgeon fishing has been very good this last week. There are lots of fish in the lower Columbia River right now. Most days they have been biting well and we are getting limits of keeper size sturgeon. The fish we have been catching have been running larger than most years.
May 23, 2006
Sturgeon Fishing has started to pick up. The last few days there has been several boats limit on keeper size sturgeon with several under size fish keeping the action interesting. Fishing should only keep improving into June.
April 5, 2006
Spring Chinook fishing is picking up. Today my 4 fishermen caught 5 hatchery fish and lost 3. We have been averaging 2-3 hatchery fish per day for the last week.
August 22, 2005
Fishing has been good in the Ocean. We still have only 2 days so far this season that we haven’t limited out. The Salmon are still offshore with the Chinook and Coho in the same area. The Coho are in the 10-15lb range with several nice Chinook each day. Buoy 10 fishing is slow. One of the fish checkers told me today that she had only checked 4 fish yesterday out of 35 boats.
August 6, 2005
Salmon fishing in the ocean has still been good. We have limited every day this season except for one day. Coho are running up to 12 lbs. now and there are lots of Chinook around. The NW winds these last few weeks are still holding the fish offshore, which make the Chinook more difficult to catch.
July 7, 2005
Salmon fishing in Marine Area 1 opened Sunday July 3d. Fishing has been good this last week. We have been limiting out every day with lots of action. We have been catching mostly Coho with a few Chinooks mixed in. The Coho we have been keeping have been about 5 to 9 lbs.
June 20, 2005
Fishing on the lower Columbia River for Sturgeon has been a little slower than last year. Fish & Wildlife stats have been about 50% success on keepers for Charters & 15% for private boats this month. My Customers are 75% successful on Keepers so far this season. We have been finding a lot of Sturgeon this year, but some days it’s hard to get them to bite. Most days though we have been catching 20 to 40 Sturgeon a day and having fun.
May 25, 2005
Sturgeon fishing is starting to pick up. After some pretty slow fishing last week, we managed to limit out the last three days. Fishing should continue to improve into June.
May 17, 2005
Sturgeon fishing opened Saturday, May 14th here. The fishermen who went reported that the fishing was slow. Sturgeon fishing normally doesn’t get hot here until the last week of May. Bottom fishing is good. We made a trial run yesterday limiting out on Rockfish and big Lingcod up to 38lbs.
April 20, 2005
Spring Chinook fishing in the Columbia River ends tonight at midnight. It's looking like this will be a record low run. Only 1,545 fish have made it over Bonneville Dam so far. The 10 year average for April 20th is over 50,000 Spring Chinook. My fisherman have caught 66 Spring Chinook for 102 fishermen this season.
April 7, 2005
Springer fishing is starting to pick up. The water visibility is about normal. Until yesterday it had been slow due to the rain and muddy water. Wednesday we caught 4 fish, today we caught 6 and lost 2 others.
March 15, 2005
Spring Salmon are finally starting to show up in the Columbia River. With little rain this winter, the fish seem to be a little late. Several fish have been caught the last two days with most boats getting a chance or two for a hookup.
August 9, 2004
Fishing is still pretty good. We are still getting limits every day. The Coho are up to 14lbs now and the Chinook have finally arrived. Chinook are consistently being caught by fishermen who know how to fish this area for them.
July 18, 2004
Salmon fishing is still pretty good. My customers are getting limits every day in two to six hours. The water is warm and the fish are scattered. Some Chinook are showing up, but are not plentiful yet. The Westport Charter boats are running all of the way to the Columbia River now to catch their salmon. Fishing must not be too good up there. The ocean salmon fishing in Marine Area 1 will be open 7 days a week now with a 2 Chinook salmon limit starting
July 23.
July 3, 2004
Salmon fishing has been doing very well. The Sturgeon fishing season ends tonight at midnight.
June 27, 2004
Salmon fishing opened today in the ocean. Fishing was pretty good. We limited out in about three hours with some nice fish. The Coho we kept were 7 to 10 lbs with a 13 lb. Chinook. Sturgeon fishing has dropped off this week with the smaller tides.
June 15, 2004
Sturgeon fishing has been very good the last two weeks. So far this season my customers have been 90% on keeper Sturgeon. This is much better than I expected. With the 3 inch increase in the minimum length this year, 50% on keepers would have been good. WDF&W landing records show the charter boats at about 60% and the private boats averaging about a fish a boat per day. Salmon fishing in Marine area 1 opens June 27th and should be very good. I will be doing both Sturgeon & Salmon trips until Sturgeon season ends (tentatively July 23rd).
May 25, 2004
Sturgeon fishing is picking up. Fishing isn't red hot yet, but what is around seems to be of nice quality. There are a lot of keeper sturgeon around already. The next two weeks, sturgeon fishing should improve significantly.
April 29, 2004
Spring Chinook fishing will close tomorrow at midnight. The main run of fish was unusually late this year and they are still coming strong. Yesterday was my last trip. My four customers caught 11 Spring Chinook of which 8 were legal hatchery fish. For the season my 128 customers caught 192 Spring Chinook this year. It was a great year in spite of a few bad trips. In May I will be doing some Bottom Fish trips before the Sturgeon fishing gets hot in June.
April 10, 2004
Spring Salmon fishing is finally starting to get pretty good. My customers caught 38 fish in the last 4 days - 10 wild fish & 28 keepers. It looks like the main run has finally arrived.
March 25, 2004
Spring Chinook fishing in the lower Columbia River is picking up pretty good right now. My first trip with customers started off with a bang yesterday. Four out of the five hits we had went into the fish box. My two customers limited out. Fishing should reach full steam in our area by next week.
August 20, 2003
Fishing has been great this summer. Lots of fish this year, we've been limiting out in 2 to 4 hours every day. The Coho we have been keeping are now 9 to 16 lbs. Most days we get a few good Chinook with the Coho. River fishing is picking up this last week with both coho and Chinook. Fishing should be getting even better as the fish get closer to the Columbia.
July 21, 2003
Salmon fishing is still great. Lots of action, with numreous small and wild Coho. Silvers that my customers have been keeping have been in the 9 to 11 lb. class. Still getting a good Chinook or two a day. Fishing should only be getting better. The ocean will now be open 7 days a week as of July 25th.
July 4, 2003
Salmon fishing is starting off red-hot with 8 to 9 lb. Coho and several Chinooks starting to show up already.
June 22, 2003
Sturgeon fishing is still pretty good. We've limited out 15 of the last 19 Sturgeon trips. WDFW has just announced that the Sturgeon season for this area will close June 28th. Ocean Salmon fishing will start June 29th and is expected to be extremely good this year.
May 30, 2003
Sturgeon fishing is picking up, there are a lot of fish in the Columbia River now. Limits on keepers are pretty common.
May 7, 2003
Spring Chinook fishing was an excellent run and we averaged well over a fish per rod this season. Sturgeon fishing is coming up in a few weeks and it should be as good as always, but the quota won't last as long this year. Salmon fishing will open June 29th. The forecast is excellent for Chinook and Coho salmon. Fishing should be great all summer into the fall.
